Double Eagle AR-15 AeroXA A Custom DE

The Double Eagle M916G is a mid-length M4/AR15 style AEG with a unique, modern twist. This rifle's handguard and receiver have been designed with pure ergonomics in mind, and are well furnished with gripping surfaces, weight-reducing grooves and vents which keep the rifle lightweight and give it that stylish modern look.

At the tip of the alloy outer barrel we can find an aggressively styled flat muzzle brake, with two ports in either side and a satin gunmetal finish. This is a welcome departure from the *yawn* boring birdcage flash hiders on most M4 style AEGs. The look is unique, but if it doesn't suit your style, you will be happy to learn that the muzzle brake attaches to 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the barrel, allowing any 14mm CCW threaded accessory to be mounted in place of the muzzle brake. The alloy outer barrel also mounts a low-profile gas block and tube, and whilst this part is only for looks it is a nice touch for realism that Double Eagle decided to include.

The M-LOK handguard is constructed from high-density polymer and features M-LOK attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions which allow either M-LOK accessories or M-LOK Picatinny rails to be mounted. The 12 o'clock position provides a Picatinny rail which mates perfectly with the receiver rail to provide a long, uninterrupted mounting surface which is ideal for larger optics and magnifier RDS combinations. The upper surface also provides a single M-LOK attachment point, which is ergonomically cut out of the handguard to provide a surface for your thumb when using the modern "c-clamp" style of shooting grip. In front of this cut out the Picatinny rail continues, providing a mounting point for the included flip-up front iron sight.  The profile of this handguard strays from the standard of cylindrical or octagonal handguards, instead providing a roughly triangular profile which assists the shooter in keeping the rifle under control in a similar manner to an M16A1 handguard or G36 handguard. This unconventional design is remarkably comfortable and allows the rifle to be used to its maximum effectiveness even without adding foregrips or rail covers.

The rifle's receiver follows an AR15 pattern, but like the handguard, it diverges to provide some innovative and unique features. The upper receiver rail has been cut out and "swiss cheesed" to reduce the overall weight of the rifle, even if only by a minuscule amount. The rear of the receiver rail is where we can find our rear flip-up iron sight, which is adjustable for windage and provides a choice of two different apertures. The entire receiver features weight-saving cut-outs, located in a manner which reduces weight without reducing the structural strength of the rifle, and adds to its modern tactical appearance. The front of the magazine well features a gripping surface with finger grooves, granting the user the flexibility to use this AEG in unconventional positions comfortably. The magazine well also has a slight flare, providing a guide for your magazine to be easily inserted and speeding up reloads, whilst remaining discrete and snag-free. The left side of the magazine well features a laser engraved "UTR" marking, which denotes "Ultra Tactical Rifle", though the markings above the fire selector read "ULTRA TACTICAL RIFLG". A shame, for sure, and whilst this may be a spelling error it is more likely that this was intentionally done to avoid copyright issues. The magazine catch can be found on the right side of the rifle, and lies well within reach of the shooters trigger finger for a fast magazine change and "mag flip" reloads, provided your teammates have helmets on!

The bolt catch on the M916G serves to release the rifles mock bolt carrier after the charging handle is pulled, and is mirrored on either side at the centre of the receiver, allowing lefties to enjoy slapping the bolt catch to send the mock bolt home. This bolt catch is significantly enlarged, addressing a major ergonomic issue with the original AR15 design; that the bolt catch was easy to miss in the heat of combat, due to its small and unobtrusive form. It also has a hole in the middle, to save weight of course! The charging handle of the M916G is an enlarged type, and features checkering on the gripping surfaces, allowing the handle to be charged with a single finger with no worries about slipping off. The fire selector of this AEG is very well designed, and features deep linear checkering to ensure you have maximum control over the selector and get the mode you want, even in poor weather conditions and when wearing thick gloves. The rifle's trigger is a flat type with a textured surface and lower ledge, allowing rapid firing on semi-automatic with ease, and rewarding even those who "slap" the trigger by keeping the finger from sliding off whilst spamming the enemy. Surrounding the trigger we can find the integrated trigger guard, which is not removable like a normal AR but has been enlarged to allow users of gloves and owners of sausage fingers to access the trigger easily. The trigger guard is also ported, sneaking that tiny bit of weight away from the M916G, and believe us, it all adds up! With the total weight of the AEG barely breaking 2 kilograms, this is one of the lightest AEGs around sporting this level of performance and advanced features.

The furniture of the M916G is another of its stand-out features, with the pistol grip being of an ergonomic design with linear texture on the front and rear, and stippling on the side panels, providing a remarkable amount of grip, to the extent that when you hold the pistol grip it feels almost like the grip is stuck to your hands! The stippling is aggressive but is shallow enough that your hands won't be torn up without gloves. The rifle's stock is a TS2 style stock, featuring a low profile adjustment lever, and two QD sling sockets on either side. The stock also includes a rubber butt plate which serves to keep the rifle firmly in the shooter's shoulder, whether wearing body armour or not. The stock attaches to a standard AR15/M4 6 position buffer tube, which allows any aftermarket stock to be added, should the TS2 not suit your style.

Double Eagle's own FALCON EFCS Fire Control System comes pre-installed in the rifles version.2 gearbox. Usually only seen in custom builds and high-end AEGs this feature is a welcome inclusion, allowing for 1-5 round burst mode, a binary trigger, as well as various wiring and battery protection features to boot. The 1-5 round burst mode and binary trigger settings can also be set at the same time, with binary being used to replace semi-auto mode, and 1-5 round burst replacing the full auto mode. The fire control system is designed to be used with Li-Po batteries and prevents the replica from firing when it detects a current draw spike, or if the battery voltage is too low. Please note that when low voltage batteries are used with the UTR556 the gearbox can lock up regularly. We recommend an 11.1V LiPo battery for this AEG, with a discharge rating (C-rating) of between 15 and 20 for the best combination of performance and longevity. The EFCS fire control system can be programmed using simple trigger pulls and requires no external tools, special adapters or a PC to function. For more information please see the Special Instructions Section.

The M90 series features an up-to-date rotary HOP unit, which sports full compatibility with aftermarket AEG HOP buckings and nubs. The rotary design allows the level of backspin to be adjusted easily, and prevents the setting from being unwinding under vibration from firing. The HOP adjuster can be found within the ejection port, located on the right side of the rifle and is accessible when the charging handle has been pulled to the rear. The inner barrel is of a standard AEG type, allowing it to easily be replaced with a tight bore aftermarket barrel should you want to increase the accuracy potential of your M90 rifle, though the currently installed inner barrel is of an "air cushion" type, which is designed to encourage a cushion of air to form around the BB as it travels down the barrel, improving shot to shot consistency.

As well equipped externally as it is internally, the Double Eagle M916G really is an unexpected advancement at this price point. Offering an advanced FCS, modern rotary HOP unit and top quality externals the M9xx series are hot on the heels of high end manufacturers! If you are looking for an advanced, high-performance and affordable AEG without peers as your next gun, look no further!
